Franklin Mint’s Rise of the Silver Surfer Coin

Somehow I missed this particular publicity stunt for that awful Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer movie. 20th Century Fox paid the Franklin Mint to take 40,000 quarters and change the back to feature an image of the Silver Surfer and the URL to the movie’s web site. Then they put the coins back into circulation.

Apparently the Treasury Department was not pleased but ultimately did not prosecute.

If only 20th Century Fox had been creative in making Rise of the Silver Surfer as it was in coming up with promos for the film.

Large Foam D20

Found this nice 6″ diameter foam D20 at several places. Paizo’s got it for $8.99. According to the Paizo product page, this is a very dense foam so the D20 can actually be rolled . . . or, alternately, thrown at unruly players.

While I was post about the Cthulhu Lexicon I got to wondering if anyone had registered the Cthulhupedia domain. The .com is owned by Lurker Films and is currently parked at GoDaddy, but I did manage to grab up Cthulhupedia.org and Cthulhupedia.net.

Hmmm . . . just $14.95 will get you on of every Jack Chick Tract currently in print. That’s like bargain basement kitsch right there. I think I’m going to get two: one to keep, and one to randomly hand out pamphlets to the Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses who keep bugging me.

Plus I wonder what kind of mail you start getting after you’re on that list?
