Todd Franklin over at Neato Coolville posted a scan of this awesome 1965 ad for Great Books (one of those companies that resells public domain classics at ridiculous prices in crappy-looking leatherbound editions).
Of course the problem in the 1960s was that kids were reading comics (hmm…apparently they weren’t looking at sales figures for comics in the mid-1960s) rather than the classics. Of course many of those classics are filled with the sort of sex and violence that would never have made it into Comics Code-era comics.
