Oregon Health & Science University is in the processing ofbuilding a new 35,000 square foot building at its Oregon National Primate Research Institute and has decided to take teh offensive against animal rights activisits by training their employees on how to respond to animal rights threats and defend their institution’s work.
The new building will house 900 rhesus monkeys by the time it is completed in 2004.
The Portand Business Journal reported that on Feb. 3, OHSU hosted three speakers who discussed the animal right movement with 115 employees via videoconference. Topics included how best to get out the pro-animal research viewpoint in the medai.
It is good to see an institution such as OHSU realize that the animal rights moement is simply not going to disappear, but that the danger can be managed with the proper training and education of its employees.
