I have long thought that Ted Turner has to be the stupidest person in America — at least among those who are rich and famous for something other than athletic ability. As a syndicated writer friend of mine put it rather bluntly, the man seems to get a hard on everytime somebody mentions Fidel Castro. The history of the Cold War series that CNN produced a while back seemed to be one long love letter from Turner to Castro.
Now, good old Ted is at it again. This time around, speaking at Brown University, he wants everyone to know that the Sept. 11 hijackers “were brave at the very least.” He claims that,
The reason that the World Trade Center got hit is because there are a lot of people living in abject poverty out there who don’t have any hope for a better life.
Hasn’t he been watching his own network? The Sept. 11 terrorists were almost universally well-educated individuals from relatively well-off backgrounds. I suppose he thinks Osama bin Laden grew up in some backwater shanty town without running water.
And, true to form, Turner attacked Bush, saying he’s “like another Julius Caesar,” while again praising his primary love interest, Fidel Castro.
Not surprising, though, from somebody who once said that every country in the world should adopt China’s one child policy which includes coercing women into having abortions.
