R. J. Rummel has posted a free book on his web site, Saving Lives, Enriching Life: Freedom as a Right And a Moral Good. Rummel has written several books, mostly on the what he calls “democide” — murders committed by states.
Rummel has exhaustively studied that issue in a number of scholarly books that concluded that the more free and democratic a state was, the less likely it was to engage in democide, while the more closed and autocratic it was, the more likely it was to engage in wholesale political murder. An excellent introduction to Rummel’s work on that topics is his excellent introductory text, Death By Government.
Saving Lives broadens Rummel’s message and nicely lays out the case for freedom. I highly recommend it.
