Salon.Com’s gossip columnist, Amy Reiter, reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger told an Austrian reporter that, “It is now almost certain that I will enter politics. I want to do it because I love this country.” The long-running rumor is that Schwarzenegger wants to run for governor of California.
So the other day, because this is the kind of people we are, my wife and I sat around thinking about what kind of cool political ads Schwarzenegger could run given his acting background.
Actually with Arnold what you need is a cool catch phrase, and California’s recent power problems provide the prefect opportunity. I’d like to see an ad having him parachute onto the California state capitol. Arnold dashes up the steps of the building and inside to a room where an actor playing Democratic Governor Gray Davis is surrounded by some hippy-looking environmentalists (maybe a couple dogs and some people throwing frisbees around).
As Arnold walks in we overhear Davis and the hippies talking about blocking construction of a new power plant. They see Arnold. He looks them over, and then turns sideways to glance back at the camera. Arnold flips a light switch plunging the room into pitch black except for some lighting that puts Arnold’s face in stark relief.
He looks at the camera and deadpans, “In November, it’ll be lights out for Gray Davis.”
Arnold, dude, call me. We can do this.
