Torrent Freak dug up a DMCA request filed by anti-piracy company Vindex on behalf of a Ukrainian TV station.
The DMCA request asks google to block a series of URLs, including:
42. http://127.0.0.1:6878/ace/manifest.m3uThe issue here isn’t that Vindex employs idiots who don’t realize what 127.0.0.1 is (though it might), but rather the rise of automated DMCA bots, which Vindex specializes in.
Vindex brags that its DMCA bot only has “a low average false positive rate of 1.0%.” If this is the industry standard failure rate, that would mean that bots like this regularly request Google and other entities to remove hundreds of thousands of legitimate links every year.
