Shaarli–A Self-Hosted Bookmarking Service

Shaarli is an open source self-hosted bookmarking service.

The personal, minimalist, super-fast, database free, bookmarking service.

Do you want to share the links you discover? Shaarli is a minimalist link sharing service that you can install on your own server. It is designed to be personal (single-user), fast and handy.

Shaarli has a few things that I liked about it over similar projects

  1. As mentioned above, it doesn’t require a database and is extremely easy to install.
  2. The search is genuinely fast, and I appreciated that the software lets me designate private links that don’t get shown and aren’t searchable to visitors.
  3. The project has been in active development for three years, so at least for the moment it seems unlikely to become abandonware.

The tagging system is a little wonky. If you want to use multi-word tags such as “bookmarking service” you have to set up the tag as “bookmarking-service” or something similar.

There are also fairly limited template options at the moment, but the templating system looks fairly straightforward.
