Sonos Still Sucks

Sonos is back with a hardware refresh of its products, and the reviews of it are driving me up the wall, because both Sonos’s website and the reviews fail to admit the single biggest drawback to the product — the wireless controller has a hard limit of 65,000 tracks it can access. In practice, the controller tends to be max out around 40,000 tracks.

That wouldn’t be such an issue if this was a $150 product, but the controller alone retails for $399. Such a small hard limit at that price point is ridiculous (and you don’t have to spend all day downloading MP3s to get that many tracks…just rip a sizable classical music collection sometime).

That almost everybody who reviews the Sonos either a) is oblivious to the limit or b) doesn’t think it relevant to note really says a lot about the state of computer hrelated reviews.

  1. What an uniformed point of view. The “average” person looking to put in a portable, take it with you when you move, reasonably high quality multi-room system isn’t going to have 60k music tracks.

Yes, some of us (myself included) crazies have 200k+ music libraries, but there are workarounds to that and no system is perfect.

The point of a Sonos system is that it’s simple. Very simple. My WIFE installed mine and set it up – I left in the morning and came back that night and she was listening to music in multiple rooms.

Bashing a system for a single, 1% of the population even cares limitation is like saying you don’t like to drive a lexus because you don’t like the hood ornament.

    Sheesh.

  2. @Jeff Robert: it is *ridiculous* given the price that Sonos charges and how long it has been around, that Sonos still has such a ridiculously low track limit. It is even more bizarre that the company and reviewers do not do a better job of disclosing this to potential purchasers of Sonos.

  3. sonos does suck, their tech support is the worst.

not sure anyone over there knows what is going on.

I could not recommend their products to anyone, sadly I am stuck with them!

I think you will see them out of business soon!
