Security Guard Receives $25,000 Reward for Capture of Michael Scarpitti (AKA Tre Arrow)

During the months that Michael Scarpitti (AKA Tre Arrow) was on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, the agency offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to Scarpitti’s arrest. On August 23, FBI officials traveled to Victoria, British Columbia, to present a $25,000 check to the security guard who apprehended Scarpitti in Canada.

Security guard Anthony Bunting stopped Scarpitti as the fugitive attempted to steal a pair of bolt cutters from a Canadian Tire store. Scarpitti claimed his name was Joshua Murray, but Canadian police quickly figured out he was, in fact, Scarpitti.

The FBI also presented a number of officers and investigators from various agencies involved in the arrest and identification of Scarpitti letters of recommendation from FBI Director Robert S. Mueller.

Scarpitti is wanted in connection with two Oregon arsons committed by the Earth Liberation Front. Currently the United States is seeking to extradite Scarpitti who has applied for asylum in Canada.

  1. Tre Arrow, AKA, Michael J. Scarpitti, was sentenced in Portland, Oregon to 78 months in federal prison for his part in two arsons in 2001. Arrow had plead guilty earlier, acknowledging he set fire to cement-mixing trucks at Ross Island Sand and Gravel Company in Portland on April 15, 2001, and logging trucks at Schoppert Logging Company in Eagle Creek on June 1, 2001. Arrow’s three co-defendants pled guilty in 2003 and have each completed 41-month prison terms.

In Arrow’s case, the Judge increased the ordinary 60-month mandatory minimum term for arson based on a finding that Arrow committed the arsons in an aggravated manner calculated to influence or affect the conduct of the victims by intimidation, coercion and retaliation (terrorism). The court also ordered Arrow to pay restitution of $101,057.09 for the Ross Island arson and $53,500 for the arson at Schoppert Logging, jointly with his convicted accomplices. Finally, Arrow waived the right to appeal his sentence.

  2. Interesting that he has to pay restitution dispite the fact that insurance would have covered any loss the company would have incured. I realize this response is being monitored by federal authorities. I also realize that they have places on the map, and places in their hearts that are being destroyed, and there will come a day when they are on the other side.
    Nice work.
