Oklahoma State Senate Approves Reduced Penalties for Cockfighting

The Oklahoma state Senate voted 29-17 to approve a bill that would reduce the penalties associated with the ban on cockfighting approved by voters last November.

The bill would make cockfighting a misdemeanor rather than a felony and, according to opponents of the change, likely render the ban on cockfighting meaningless.

The bill now goes on to Oklahoma’s state House.
