The BBC reported on July 26 that state-run radio in Equatorial Guinea recently declared the president of that country to be God-like. Well, cool — maybe he can help sort out all of Africa’s problems.
The BBC reports that state-run radio declared that President Teodoro Obiang Nguema was “in permanent contact with the Almighty” and that the president was “like God in heaven” with “all power over men and things.”
And it gets better. According to the BBC, an aid to President Nguema declared on the show that,
He can decided to kill without anyone calling him to account and without going to hell because it is God himself, with whom he is in permanent contact, and who gives him this strength.
Of course if Nguema really has all that power its a shame he couldn’t simply will people to vote for him instead of having to commit electoral fraud repeatedly since taking power in a 1979 coup.
