Gallery 3 Released

Gallery 3.0, the latest version of the widely used open source photo gallery manager, has finally been released a year and a half after active development on the project started. A large number of modules are already available for Gallery 3 over at GalleryModules.com.

I already installed Gallery 3 on my server here and imported all the photos and data from my Gallery 2 installation. Importing everything went seamless. Gallery 3 is quite a bit different from its earlier iterations, however, and I’m still trying to sort through how to replicate some of the features that I had in the old installation (Gallery 3 eliminated some features from the core in order to emphasize speed and the ability to handle large sets of photographs, though many of the removed features can easily be added with add-on modules).

Lego Green Lantern Power Battery

This Lego Green Lantern Power Battery may be the best thing ever (at least for this week). This would be amazing as-is, but the creator of this at JustJon.Net hit it out of the park by a) making the battery actually light up, and b) having the light triggered by an RFID-equipped ring.

Simply awesome.

Editorial Calendar Plugin for WordPress

Edit Calendar is a plugin for WordPress that makes it much easier to manage and keep track of posts scheduled to be published in the future. The video below does an excellent job of illustrating what the plugin does and why you probably want it.

NetCounter for Android

NetCounter is a small, free app for Android that simply logs how much bandwidth you’re using on your smart phone. It will break the usage down by cell usage vs. Wi-Fi, and all the data it logs are easily exported to a CSV file.

I’ve been using it since I first got my G2 oh so long ago (i.e. about one year and three Android phones ago), and have been very happy with it.
