A couple years ago, I wrote about My Life Organized as my task management software of choice. About 6 months ago, though, I switched to RememberThe Milk.com and haven’t looked back.
My Life Organized is still the best task manager I’ve ever used but: a) its a desktop application, and b) its Windows-only.
I’d tried out RememberTheMilk back in 2006 but came away unimpressed. They’ve dramatically improved since then. Using RTM’s tagging and priority systems along with a fairly powerful search-based lists that use Boolean operators, I can replicate in RTM what I was doing in My Life Organized. And thanks to a nice mobile version of RTM, I can access my task list easily on my Blackberry.

I bookmarked the RTM iGoogle module as a sidebar and it’s worked out AWESOME for me. Sometimes I forget what tag I meant to use for a thing (I adopted a GTD philosophy using tags as projects and contexts) and the gadget doesn’t let you view or edit notes–but otherwise it rocketh the houseth.
I have been enjoying RTM too. I was and am a big fan of MyLifeOrganized. However, they have never really taken the next step to release an OS X version, or provide an online implementation. I grew tired of launching parallels just so I could access my to-do list. There are several great stand alone applications (Things, and OmniFocus). But we are now living in an online world — I need my to-do list via any web-connected computer, on my phone, etc.
The only thing I really dislike about RTM at this point is that they don’t have sub-tasks. So you can’t do some of the project management type tasks and organization as you might be accustomed to, and that the other GTD apps provide for.
One other feature worth noting is that, if you like using iGoogle as your homepage, there is a really great gadget you can add to your portal: http://www.rememberthemilk.com/services/igoogle/
The subtask thing is an annoyance.
Also, I don’t understand when developers only do things half-assed — so if I use iGoogle I can view a specific smart list, but when I use their Google Calendar integration, I’m stuck with viewing the Today list (my “today” view is a smart list rather than simply everything that I happened to mark as due today).
How hard would it be, really, to allow user to enable ICS feeds for each list?
