Mandela’s Pathetic Backpedaling on AIDS Drugs Testing

Reuters reports that Nelson Mandela has backpedaled on testing of AIDS drugs and is now endorsing Thabo Mbeki’s ridiculous position that further safety testing of AIDS drugs is necessary because, as Reuters paraphrases his position,

. . . conditions in Africa were different from those in the developed world, where the drugs have proven beneficial.

Mandela does say that the government should provide the drugs to patients with the warning that they are awaiting further safety tests, but how can Mandela seriously call on South Africa to “smash to the superstition” about AIDS while endorsing this part of Mbeki’s pseudoscientific view of AIDS and AIDS drugs.

Page Loading Time in Mozilla 1.2?

Earlier this week I downloaded Mozilla 1.2 and, for the most part, am very happy with it. But one of the little things that I found extremely happy has disappeared — the page load time in the status bar. Anyone know how to get Mozilla 1.2 to display the page load time in the status bar?

Update:

Seth Dillingham says that the page load time feature was removed for reasons that don’t make much sense.

9/11 Myths That Won’t Go Away

In a Washington Post story about the Bush administration designating Americans as combatants, the Post reporter writes,

Thanks to enforcement of “the wall” by FBI lawyers, they [administration officials] note, pre-Sept. 11 permission to search Moussaoui’s computer was not sought, a crucial missed opportunity to prevent the attacks.

Huh? According to statements by FBI director Robert Mueller, Moussaoi’s laptop contained a lot of information about crop dusting planes and ways to dispersion of pesticides, but there was nothing on his laptop that pertained directly to 9/11.
