Buttons if a Thunderbird extension that lets you add different buttons to the toolbar to extend the functionality. The specific need I had was to switch the default SMTP server when roaming around with my laptop. This extensions does the job nicely.

Attachment Extractor Extension for Thunderbird
For the most part I don’t want Thunderbird to automatically extract all attachments, but I also receive about 15 automated e-mails every day that have large attachments where I’d like to automatically extract the attachments to a directory.
Attachment Extractor is an extension for Thunderbird that does just that. Simply select the messages that you want the attachments extracted from, right click and select the “Extract Selected Attachments” and the extension takes care of the rest.

Thunderbird 0.9
The good folks at Mozilla.Org released Thunderbird 0.9 earlier this week. Thunderbird 0.8 introduced an extremely annoying bug that prevented users from changing the location for storing mailboxes locally.
So that’s been fixed, and Thunderbird’s added a number of cool tools for keeping track of e-mail, including more sophisticated message grouping features and virtual search folders.
