Interesting video describing the disassembly of Experimental Breeder Reactor I (EBR-I), the world’s first breeder reactor and the first nuclear plant to experience a meltdown in the United States.
Wikipedia notes that EBR-I was one of the first nuclear power plants to generate electricity. However, “the design purpose of EBR-I was not to produce electricity but instead to validate nuclear physics theory that suggested a breeder reactor should be possible.”
