Reddi-Bacon was the brainchild of Aaron Lapin, who was the co-inventor of Reddi-Wip, the whipped cream in a can.
The product consisted of precooked bacon between two sheets of foil that was then covered on the outside by a plastic coating.
The resulting packet could then be placed in a standard toaster and, voila, bacon ready in minutes.
Unfortunately, the company was never able to create the packets so that they wouldn’t leak hot grease. This created a fire hazard as well as ruined toasters.
Reddi-Bacon was test-marketed but pulled before being launched nationwide because of these problems.
