Kevin Werbach found a bit of revisionism in Meraki Networks technical advisor Robert Morris’ biography,

In 1988 his discovery of [a] buffer overflow first brought the Internet to the attention of the general public.

Of course Morris brought the Internet to the attention of the general public by unleashing a worm that in 1988 caused serious service interruptions on the Internet. For bringing the Internet to the attention of the general public, Morris was convicted of violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and ultimately was sentenced to three years’ probation and 400 hours of community service.
