Gollum over at Action-Figure.Com has a so-so review of the Cloverfield monster action figure,

So, bottom line..on the positive side: It’s a cool monster with lots of articulation and is loads of fun. On the negative: It’s a little more expensive than it should be, and is probably coming out a little late since the movie isn’t fresh on people’s minds anymore.

Yeah, and since the movie barely cleared $80 million domestic it wasn’t really on too many people’s minds to begin with. I assume all of the (unwarranted as it turned out) secrecy over the movie prevented doing toys in time for the movie’s release.

Hasbro finally released images of its Cloverfield action figure. Like the movie, I think the action figure works better as a concept. Once you actually see it, you think “they suckered us into paying money for this?”

Hasbro has a page where you can order a Cloverfield action figure. There’s no image up, but this is a 14″ tall limited edition figure of the monster with 70 points of articulation and a number of accessories. Retail price is $99, but this thing isn’t shipping until September 30.

Saw Cloverfield over the weekend. Ugh. If only the rumors had been true and this had been a Cthulhu film or a stealth Godzilla film.

But no, what we’ve got here is Friends Get Stomped or maybe How I Met Your Monster. Self-indulgent twenty-somethings in confusing relationships do a lot of running and expressing their angst, and then they die. Yawn. I half expected the military to stop the monster by detonating a Prozac bomb.

The scenes with the monster were fairly cool, if all too brief. Hopefully the sequel will be something like Cloverfield vs. Mecha-Cloverfield rather than some ridiculous Dr. Phil-esque “oh look, its really about 9/11 and the things that are really important in our lives” bullshit therapy piece.
