Wandering Planet Toys Kickstarting ‘The Prisoner’ Action Figure Line

Later this year, Wandering Planet Toys is planning a Kickstarter for a line of action figures based on the 1967 British science fiction television series, The Prisoner.

The images for the initial wave obviously focus heavily on Number 6, but there are also two-packs planned which include other characters such as the Number 2 from “Free For All” and the Number 6 doppelganger from “The Schizoid Man.”

If this line is successful, it would be great to see an action figure version of Angelo Muscat’s mute character The Butler.

Unpublished Jack Kirby/Gil Kane “The Prisoner” Comic Pages Getting

In the mid-1970s, Marvel had the rights to create a comic book based on “The Prisoner.” In 1976, Steven Englehart and Gil Kane were given the task of creating a comic book based on the show. Gil Kane produced 18 pages based on Englehart’s script, before Lee handed the project off to Jack Kirby. Kirby created 17 pages based on the script, before Lee decided to scrap the project entirely.

Titan Comics now has the comic book license for “The Prisoner” and is publishing a volume containing all of the work created at Marvel by the trio.

We Want Information… er, DVDs

Excellent news — the late-1960s television show, “The Prisoner,” is being released on DVD. Currently two DVD sets containing the first six episodes have been released in the United States, with the rest of the episodes to be released by October 2001.

What’s the big deal about “The Prisoner”? The Prisoner Appreciation Society has all the details about the series, but to my mind it is easily the best science-fiction/fantasy television series ever and one of the best television series, period.
