Marvel’s Official Index to the Marvel Universe Series

Not sure when they started publishing these, for the past year or so I’ve noticed this interesting line of books from Marvel indexing particular series. The Amazing Spider-Man index below, for example, provides

synopses of every Spider-Man comic – including backup strips – introducing you to the characters, teams, places, and equipment that appeared within, providing vital informaton about all things Spider-Man!

I really wish DC would do something like this for their iconic characters. I would love to see a Green Lantern or Batman index along the same lines (I’m kinda meh on Marvel at the moment).

Move Over Sennheiser, Here Comes Spider-Man

Ah, yes, I was just asking myself the other day “how come I can’t buy any Marvel character-branded headphones for my iPod?” Well, now (or very soon) I can! Spider-Man earbuds, earpad headphones, traditional headphones, and wraparound headphones.

But wait … where’s the Spider-Man bluetooth headset? Come on, guys, lets get with the program here.

Fireman In Thailand Dresses up as Spider-Man to Coax Boy Off Ledge

Fascinating story from Agence-France Presse,

A Thai fireman turned superhero when he dressed up as comic-book character Spider-Man to coax a frightened eight-year-old from a balcony, police said.

Teachers at a special needs school in Bangkok alerted authorities when an autistic pupil, scared of going to lessons, sat out on the third-floor ledge and refused to come inside, a police sergeant said.

Despite teachers’ efforts to beckon the boy inside, he refused to budge until his mother mentioned her son’s love of superheroes, prompting fireman Sonchai Yoosabai to take a novel approach to the problem.

“My fireman rushed back to the fire station and took out his Spider-Man costume… The boy immediately ran into his arms with a smile,” sergeant Virat Boonsadao said.

He said the fireman keeps the costume at work to liven up school fire drills.

Wow. I can’t even coax my wife to dress up as Wonder Woman to … uh … coax me off a balcony  … yeah, that’s it.

Spider-Man The Musical Goes Full Steam Ahead

spider-man-the-musicalI’ve written before about the Broadway musical version of Spider-Man, and this awful awful project apparently continues full speed ahead — those so interested can now buy tickets for the 2010 debut of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

According to a Marvel press release,

Drawing from over 40 years of Marvel comic books for inspiration, “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark” spins a new take on the mythic tale of a young man propelled from a modest rowhouse in Queens to the sky-scraping spire of the Chrysler Building, the bustling offices of the Daily Bugle, through the dizzying canyons of Manhattan, to new vistas never before seen.

The musical follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down—literally—when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling. This bullied science-geek—suddenly endowed with astonishing powers—soon learns, however, that with great power comes great responsibility as villains test not only his physical strength but also his strength of character.

Spider-Man’s battles will hurtle the audience through an origin story both recognizable and unexpected—yielding new characters as well as familiar faces—until a final surprising confrontation casts a startling new light on this hero’s journey.

Please, please, please let this be an elaborate hoax.
