Liz Cheney Statement on Donald Trump Impeachment

From a statement released by Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-Wyoming) office on January 12, 2021,

“On January 6, 2021 a violent mob attacked the United States Capitol to obstruct the process of our democracy and stop the counting of presidential electoral votes. This insurrection caused injury, death and destruction in the most sacred space in our Republic.

“Much more will become clear in coming days and weeks, but what we know now is enough. The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the President. The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not. There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.

“I will vote to impeach the President.”

Justice Department Issues Press Release Denying Claims That Trump Is Pardoning The Capitol Insurrectionists

Over the weekend, someone on Parler made a fake “WH Office of Pardon Attorney” account and claimed that individuals involved in last week’s Capitol Insurrection should send their details to that (genuine) office to get a potential pardon from President Donald Trump.

Apparently, enough people believed the post and contacted The Office of the Pardon Attorney that the Department of Justice put out a press release denying the claims.

Statement on Misinformation on Social Media Regarding the Office of the Pardon Attorney

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice issued the following statement:

“Please be advised that the information circulating on social media claiming to be from Acting Pardon Attorney Rosalind Sargent-Burns is inauthentic and should not be taken seriously.

“The Justice Department’s Office of the Pardon Attorney does not have a social media presence and is not involved in any efforts to pardon individuals or groups involved with the heinous acts that took place this week in and around the U.S. Capitol.”

Capitol Insurrectionist Leader Targeted By Wiccan Curses

Career grifter and capital insurrection organizer Ali Alexander is apparently in hiding after he claims he is being targeted by . . . witches. According to The Daily Beast,

Now Alexander claims to be in hiding, alleging in a video posted Friday that he needs $2,000 a day to fund his security detail and other expenses and hitting his fans up for donations. In a bizarre moment in his fundraising pitch, Alexander claimed that he was being targeted by the supernatural: “Witches and wiccans are putting hexes and curses on us.”

Alexander is apparently delusion on more than one front. He claims that the January 6 capital insurrection was peaceful and disavowed “violent agitators” at the event. But this is a video of Alexander playing Jim Jones to his MAGA and Qanon cultists tells a slightly different story,

Wikipedia Updates Its List of Coup Attempts to Add the Capitol Insurrection

From Wikipedia’s List of Coups and Coup Attempts article,

On 6 January, violent supporters of United States President Donald Trump, some armed, stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to stop Biden’s votes from being counted and him being certified as the winner, during the 2021 United States Electoral College count. Lockdown and evacuation orders were given and the session was suspended. In the violent riot that followed (referred to as “the storming of the Capitol”), one pro-Trump supporter was shot and killed by United States Capitol Police and a Capitol Police officer was assaulted with a fire extinguisher and killed by the rioters. In total, 5 people were killed in the attempted coup. Both the Senate and House chambers were breached, as well as the offices of several members of congress, including those of the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. The international community immediately reacted, with world leaders and the NATO secretary-general calling for calm. Former President George W. Bush stated, “This is how election results are disputed in a banana republic – not our democratic republic.”
