Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum Makes High Quality Images of Its Entire Collection Available for Download

Dutch museum Rijksmuseum has really gone all out to make high resolution images of its collection available online. And while some museum’s have retreated into annoying language about restricting such images via copyright, Rijksmuseum lets users curate their own collections online, download those images, edit them and reupload them, and use them in your own projects. Want to take this high-res image of a 17th century equestrian helmet into an iPod skin or a pillow? The Rijksmuseum doesn’t just allow it, they encourage it.

This is really a model for how other museums should engage with the public in furthering their basic mission.
