The Death of the Action Figure Carrying Case

Philip Reed at BattleGrip reviews the rise and fall of the action figure carrying case. Carrying cases were available for most lines of action figures in the 1970s and 1980s, but started becoming rarer in the 1990s and have now all but disappeared.

Why?

Because action figure buying and collecting is largely an adult hobby these days. In fact, when you find toy figure lines that kids are actually buying or collecting, you’ll tend to find plenty of carrying cases.

Look at Skylanders, for example. There have been no less than five carrying cases/figure organizers released for Skylanders over the past few years.

Same thing with Pokemon figures. There have been several carrying cases for Pokemon over the years.

If kids are actually buying it and/or collecting it, odds are there will be a carrying case for it. Once it becomes a largely adult collector phenomenon, the carrying cases disappear.
