What an uniformed point of view. The "average" person looking to put in a portable, take it with you when you move, reasonably high quality multi-room system isn't going to have 60k music tracks.

Yes, some of us (myself included) crazies have 200k+ music libraries, but there are workarounds to that and no system is perfect.

The point of a Sonos system is that it's simple. Very simple. My WIFE installed mine and set it up - I left in the morning and came back that night and she was listening to music in multiple rooms.

Bashing a system for a single, 1% of the population even cares limitation is like saying you don't like to drive a lexus because you don't like the hood ornament.

Sheesh.

Thanks, Brian, for even though you are legally and morally wrong, for thinking through your position.
In former times knowledge of what went on inside a woman's reproductive tract was quite limited, especially during the early stages of pregnancy. Many strongly suspected that, extrapolating back from what they did know, that there was a distinct individual human being in there all the way back to conception.
In a court of law, where a person's liberty or even life hangs in the balance, "strongly suspected" does not make it. To convict an aborting mother or an abortionist of murder required proof that what had been done involved the death of a human being. If there was not proof beyond a reasonable doubt, no conviction.
Without a body and with only the suspects (aborting mother and her hired executioner)(who cannot be compelled to give evidence that may convict them) having first-hand knowledge of what happened, successful prosecution was so difficult that prosecuting attorneys, even those who really wanted to punish aborters, would not waste their time and the resources of their offices.
Today when we can see with the electron microscope even the wrapping of the DNA from the sperm with the DNA of the ovum, resulting in a distinct individual, the proof is more readily obtained. It still would be difficult to prosecute because if abortion was treated under the same laws that prohibit the murder of already-born human beings the crime would be perpetrated in secret and all the witnesses would come under the 5th amendment protection against being compelled to give testimony that can be used against them.
Formerly, when abortion was treated as murder, the aborting mother would be granted immunity in return for her testimony against the abortionist. She had had one baby killed, while the abortionist had killed dozens or hundreds, so (usually a "he") he was the one who was vigorously prosecuted. Later, the laws were changed to grant the aborting mother total impunity (see "title of nobility") and to reduce the maximum penalty for criminal abortion (see "bill of attainder"), which had been the same as for the criminal homicide of a born human being.
Finding one or a few anti-abortionists who either have not thought through the consequences of obtaining what they say they want, or who are unable to articulate it, is intellectually dishonest, as you point out concerning the straw man argument. Some won't say they understand the consequences for they are incrementalists and won't go for a more solid position until they get what they are currently trying to accomplish. Or they don't want to offend their "troops" who come out to picket faithfully but, like the interviewees, haven't thought it through.
Many don't want to think of the aborting mother as anything but a victim. Victim of what? Did the bad, bad abortionist come out on the street and drag them in? Mostly victim of life and of nature. The boys can play around with sex without getting pregnant but the girls can't always get away with sex-for-fun.
Even justice Harry Blackmun, author of Roe v. Wade, pointed out that since 1859 Texas had granted aborted mothers impunity. His comments are found, among other places, in the text at note 49 and in note 54. The "Pro-LIfe" amici curiae ("friends of the court") advisory briefs did not get to the heart of the matter. The attorney for Texas went no further than to defend the Texas statute (that was his job).
"... in many States, including Texas, 49 by statute or judicial interpretation, the pregnant woman herself could not be prosecuted for self-abortion or for cooperating in an abortion performed upon her by another."
[ Footnote 54 ] "When Texas urges that a fetus is entitled to Fourteenth Amendment protection as a person, it faces a dilemma. Neither in Texas nor in any other State are all abortions prohibited. Despite broad proscription, an exception always exists. The exception contained [410 U.S. 113, 158] in Art. 1196, for an abortion procured or attempted by medical advice for the purpose of saving the life of the mother, is typical. But if the fetus is a person who is not to be deprived of life without due process of law, and if the mother's condition is the sole determinant, does not the Texas exception appear to be out of line with the Amendment's command?

"There are other inconsistencies between Fourteenth Amendment status and the typical abortion statute. It has already been pointed out, n. 49, supra, that in Texas the woman is not a principal or an accomplice with respect to an abortion upon her. If the fetus is a person, why is the woman not a principal or an accomplice? Further, the penalty for criminal abortion specified by Art. 1195 is significantly less than the maximum penalty for murder prescribed by Art. 1257 of the Texas Penal Code. If the fetus is a person, may the penalties be different?"

Wow, MyWot people like Sami and Deborah are such liars I cant believe it. How do they sleep at night?

The problem isn't that users post false information on Mywot. It's that Mywot encourages them to bash innocent companies via their mass rating tool. They beleive the more bad ratings the more people will signup to post rebuttals.

Their "trusted sources" are only sites that collaborate with them and their fraud. For example, if you protest their false comments, and they know they are false, they will have you added as a phishing site in www.hosts-file.net knowing it isnt true. Then they will point to it as "evidence" of their unlawful and false posts.

The good thing is that they rate so many people bad their ratings aren't even credible. But they should all be in jail for their misconduct.

What a bunch of uneducated morons.

Wow, MyWot people like Sami and Deborah are such liars I cant believe it. How do they sleep at night?

The problem isn’t that users post false information on Mywot. It’s that Mywot encourages them to bash innocent companies via their mass rating tool. They beleive the more bad ratings the more people will signup to post rebuttals.

Their “trusted sources” are only sites that collaborate with them and their fraud. For example, if you protest their false comments, and they know they are false, they will have you added as a phishing site in http://www.hosts-file.net knowing it isnt true. Then they will point to it as “evidence” of their unlawful and false posts.

The good thing is that they rate so many people bad their ratings aren’t even credible. But they should all be in jail for their misconduct.

What a bunch of uneducated morons.

Your "coin toss" analogy is faulty, in that tossiing the coin a number of times does, in fact, ALWAYS yield the same result, which is ONLY "heads or tails," and should be the "expected result".
Thus, while "tossing a coin" has multiple (2) possible "results", this finite expectation is predictible and precise, no matter how many times it is repeated.
To toss this coin over and over, expecting OTHER THAN "heads" or "tails", now THAT'S "Insanity", as defined by this cliche.................

Now Hindu extremism hasn't yet reached the level of Muslim extremism, I am an Atheist from my point of view India is a country of 80% Hindus and around 15% Muslims and yet there were Muslim-Hindu fights and yes there are many Muslims living peacefully, What if the population percentage numbers shifted 80% of Muslims and 15% of Hindus and there was a religious fight, Would Hindus be still surviving in that country, Considering that country is in the same level as India
On the other hand stating that India is a secular country i wrong, I think it would be more apt calling India a religious minority country where reservation is provided for the religious minority and the lower Castes. Modern Western societies are generally recognized as secular. This is due to the near-complete freedom of religion (beliefs on religion generally are not subject to legal or social sanctions), and the lack of authority of religious leaders over political decisions. Nevertheless, religious beliefs are widely considered a relevant part of the political discourse in many of these countries.
Personally i prefer reservation based on Poverty Line of the country and to reduce the effect of Caste-ism provide reservations to the inter caste groups(Men and Women married in spite of belonging to completely different castes) instead of this banning of Caste based organizations is recommended and severe punishments to those whoever bring up caste in the public scope. Caste based violence should be condemned strictly, swiftly and severely not intimated by the number involved same applies for religious violence. Yes this process may seem to be very harsh but is required, It's the 21'st century where Human's are able to predict the bid bang up-to less than a nano second and India is suffering from age old ideas and age old Hatred.
Closing my case i point out the Global Peace Index position of India is 135 out of 153 places.

My company it's not Word documents but screenshots of everything. Cut and paste is apparently too hard. (In fairness, javascript-heavy websites like Twitter and Facebook can sometimes make simple cut and paste a huge pain in the rear.)

@<a href="http://brian.carnell.com/articles/2011/is-full-disk-encryption-too-good/comment-page-1/#comment-25493" rel="nofollow">Mark Morgan</a>: in federal court and most state courts spouses can actually prevent testimony by a spouse under certain circumstances. There are quite a few exceptions, however. So if I tell my wife "here's my key so you can access my data in case I die", if the court can't compel me to testify to my key, it probably won't be able to compel my wife to testify.

However, if I tell my wife "I'm encrypting my laptop with this key so no one discovers my plans to blow up the Pentagon" then a spouse can be compelled to testify.

So far, though, it is unresolved whether an encryption key something that is protected by the 5th amendment. If it turns out not to be, then sharing with a spouse is probably a bad idea.

That being said, my main concern is potential laptop thieves and snooping friends/relatives/co-workers, not the feds.

As for the typo issue, the real danger would be that you would decide you wanted to use "thisismypassphrase" and you accidentally typed "thisismypassphraseSSS" when encrypting. You're correct -- a typo like that would effectively lock you out of the data forever.

Typically I always encrypt and then test media when their either blank (such as new external hard drives) or immediately out of the box for computers. So the first thing I do when I get a new laptop, the first thing I do is encrpyt it and then test the passphrase to make sure it all worked correctly.

Systems like TrueCrypt will make you type the passphrase twice and I will usually also check the option that will show me the passphrase plaintext before I hit "Next" just to make sure. Reduces security, but just draw the drapes and make sure you're in an area not being monitored by security cams.

A lot of it comes down to risk management. I've only had an account compromised once in a couple decades now (and that was for a game), and I've never had anything stolen. But if someone did steal my laptop and it was unencrypted, they'd essentially have my entire life at their fingertips. I sleep better knowing its all encrypted.

Interesting. For key escrow, I also wonder if it's still legal for a wife to refuse to testify against her husband, and if that would include not disclosing his key if it's not written anywhere. (I doubt there's a clear answer for that until someone tries it.) But I was also worried about simply making a typo one time and being locked out. This is the single biggest thing that has kept me from using something like Mac's whole-disk encryption.

I use a passphrase that it would be extremely difficult for me to forget under normal circumstance. Plus I have my laptops set up so I have to enter the phrase when recovering from hibernation or sleep mode as well as startup-- so I probably type the darn thing 7 or 8 times a day (Windows crashes are a security feature in that respect!).

I am more worried (and I seriously do worry about this) of head trauma or a stroke. Also, I haven't yet shared the password with my wife or anyone else, so if I have a heart attack in the middle of writing this post, there's no ability to access any of the data. Key escrow for situations like that is a pain without getting multiple lawyers involved (which is how Cory Doctorow soled this -- by giving portions of the key to different lawyers in different legal jurisdictions who essentially have to agree that there's a good reason to get together and assemble the entire key, such as in the case of being incapacitated but not in the case that Cory's in Guantanamo and the CIA really wants access to his laptop).

Funny, I thought I'd find a generic explanation of this blogger's ideas about what the title says.
However, there's not much of that before the attack on Leopold/Krugman starts again.
In the years since Leopold got burned, he's turned out numerous excellent stories that are not available anywhere else. He's one of the people who's been really direct and straightforward about what he does, unlike some journalists. He tells it exactly like it is, was and his sources are just fine, his work is fine. It's one of the reasons I support Truthout. I wonder if there's anything on this blog that doesn't have to do with Jason Leopold?

Alright, a blog that bashes Krugman and Leopold both. Unfortnuately the link included (which I clicked eagerly to see your proof of Krugman's terrible mistake, whatever it was) does not work.
So this post is pretty much useless.

Thanks for this...I've used CSV Importer before and love it -- but since I switched to my Mac, I lost the field names in my Excel file and now you've helped me start anew.

Plus, that's cool about the post excerpt -- I am going to use that directly. Now.

Yes, thank God Dreamhost uses PHP 5 -- and the only thing I've found with csv importer is that it used to get hung up if I tried to import a large file full of thousands or hundreds of lines and records, so I would import maybe 200 at a time.

I will see if it lets me do more. Either way it's all good (hopefully it'll let me do more) because then the links will get indexed into Google more naturally.

I quit reading boingboing.net because of Antinous, and because of the constant (at that time, mid to last 2010) anti Tea Party jibes. Whether or not you agree with Tea Party agendas (most of which are decent) or Tea Party members (some of which are FOS, others not at all), the hateful, petty, xenophobic and (occasionally) non-sequitur-ish comments about the Tea Party that were (and still are, to a degree) taking place on boingboing.net is truly saddening. At one time in my life (when younger, of course) I expected intelligent, well-educated and technologically savvy persons to be less prejudiced and hateful. No longer. Apparently, it's perfectly okay for boingboingers to be prejudiced, just so long as they all agree on the group to hate (Reps, Cons, Tea Partiers, etc). Pretty sad...

Excellent thought. I wonder if they used pi to calculate the perfect circular shape and circumference of an electron. They about came to the same conclusion that the electron was almost perfectly spherical. If an electron was the size of the solar system, the spherical aberration would only be +- a few millimeters. So if the electron is round to one part in a million billion that's still only 15 or so digits of pi. And none of that makes sense given that an electron is a point particle.

completely agree with the other comments on the poorness of the product. Here is what I have found so far.

1) Does it play movies? Yes... with skipping, stuttering, and freezing from only five feet away on occassion
2) Does it create it's own wireless network? Yes... but if you use your browser to surf the files and play your movies, when you go back to your normal network... you have a good chance of finding the homepage of your browser hijacked permanently to the goflexsatellite.com homepage. After that... Your browser will only display http 400 Bad Request for your homepage url. Whether you just opened up a new browser or typed the url in by hand. Other url's come up fine though... very strange. So far the only way their support has gotten mine back being google.com is to reset my browser to its default settings. If you change your homepage to something beside what it was and then reconnect... you may find that both url addresses are now not working when you re-connect back to your regular wifi network. This issue affects multiple types of browsers on multiple Operating Systems and Devices... not just Internet Explorer. I have had Seagate verify this issue on my laptop by letting them remote in to it and see the issue. They could not correct it. They advised me to update my firmware. Yep... right after that my Toshiba Thrive started doing the same thing.
3) Ripping your movies to file to be able to play them? for this price they should include at least a piece of software to do this. Even a trial issue would have been nice.
4) Battery... so far I have found the drive needs to be plugged in if you plan on watching more than one movie or two really short ones.
5) Space? there is plenty of it on the 500 gig drive. that is one thing in its favor... about the only thing I can see though.
Awesome Idea but extrmeely poor implementation, support, and performance bring it down to a poor to fair rating. Hope Seagate works this and any other bugs out of the system. I have to say... I have been buying seagate products for over ten years and I have never been so dissappointed.

Yes, He was a soldier who came back from war as a hero, but to turn that dark there is something very wrong. Personally I feel that a man harms a child should lose all rights of freedom. 23.5 hours a day in solitary. My prays go to the daughter and the mother for the long road ahead because as someone who has helped abuse victims there will be things down the road that you can not see.

Precisely why they will stipulate pre-written I couldn't declare...

I was actually three years old when he started to sexually molest and sodomize me. It stopped when I was six and told my mom after we moved from Georgia to New York while my parents were getting a divorce. He is a sick man and although he was an American hero, he deserves no credit for that after taking something from me that I will never get back.
