Universe Sandbox

Universe Sandbox is a Windows-based simulator that lets you interact with the solar system and 1,000s of celestial objects. But Universe Sandbox takes this setup one step further, letting users run fictional (we hope) scenarios,

Smash planets together, introduce rogue stars, and build new worlds from spinning discs of debris. Fire a moon into a planet or destroy everything you’ve created with a super massive black hole.

Nice. It’s free to download and demo, and the suggested license cost for individual users is $25 (the author lets you set your own price, so you can go higher or lower than that).

Golly Game of Life Simulator

The other day I was looking for a Game of Life simulator but didn’t find too much worthwhile on the Internet. Then today I stumbled across the Golly open source Game of Life simulator, and was blown away.

Unlike other life simulators I downloaded, this one is still being actively developed, and the look and user interface were what I expected from a contemporary application. I especially love the fact that the size of universe is only limited by available memory.

Quite simply, everything that should be in a Game of Life simulator is in there.

Tab Kit Firefox Extension

Since everyone’s favorite Firefox extension, Tab Mix Plus, seems to be down for the count, I went looking for an extension that could replace it. The only thing I’ve found that does is Tab Kit. Since it is still in development, you’ll have to login and acknowledge you understand it is still “experimental”. I’m using it on all my computers now, and haven’t noticed any issues — other than the fact that it makes Firefox usable again for those of us who like to have >100 tabs open at a time.
